The New York Times — Due Monday, Nov. 6

Read The New York Times for the next two weeks. Copies are available all over campus. You don't have to read every word of every page, but I want you to look through every section, keep up with the news and read further into the stories that interest you.

Report back by Monday, Nov. 6.

• — What do you like about the NYT?

• — What do you not like about the paper?

• — What can a good newspaper do that social media or television news cannot?

• — How do you compare the NYT to your news app that you used for the earlier assignment? What pros and cons are there to each?

• — Would you recommend the NYT to others? Why or why not?

50 points due by 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 6.

  1. I really enjoy the content of The New York Times, I think all of their stories are relevant and unbiased. I also like how the paper is separated into sections and I can read all of the arts stories in one place, or all of the sports. I did have a few issues, however. Personally I have issues reading an actual newspaper, they are huge and the easiest way for me to read a paper is to lay it out on a table or the floor and attempt to read it that way. I also really enjoy color photos, which the paper can not cover on every page. I still however, really enjoy the content of the paper and the credibility of the news source. A good newspaper can offer more elaborate details and description than a social media post or a television news cast. Newspapers are also more reliable that social media. Comparing The New York Times to the CBS application, I prefer the app. CBS also offers important and relevant news and it is much more accessible than a newspaper. The only thing I like more about the paper than the app is that the newspaper is separated in a more convenient way than the app. With the CBS app I can get news updates as they arise, rather than waiting until the next morning's paper. Overall, I prefer the CBS app over The New York Times. I would recommend The New York Times to anyone who prefers newspapers. They are a reliable and relevant news source, but if you just aren’t into reading newspapers I would not recommend the paper itself. I would however, recommend trying the app or the online version. The New York Times is a great news outlet as a whole, but unless you like newspapers I would not recommend it.

  2. I really enjoyed reading the New York Times. Before this assignment I picked up a copy almost everyday because it is one of my favorite news sources, but this assignment gave me more incentive to read and skim through sections I do not normally look at. I really the coverage that the New York Times has. There is a wide range of stories: not just state or national, but in-depth international stories as well. My favorite section of the New York Times has always been the International section because it goes into a great amount of detail over events that aren't always in your common news sources. I do not fully care for the layout in the recent editions of the Times. Their main front page photo that everyone sees is often not close to the story it is relevant too. While I understand the placement of the ads, I do not particularly like the placement. A large majority of the adds are placed on the second page. For me my news is more important to see than what new watch or car is out. Newspapers are often able to go into much more detail than social media or tv. On social media you have a very limited amount of characters to get just the gist of the story down, and tv stations have a limited time limit to the point across; therefore, these platforms just give the main important parts of a story rather than the full story. Newspapers have a limited space as well, but they are still able to go into full detail and tell most or all of the story that is mentioned. I also used the New York Times app for the previous assignment, so I got to compare the source on different platforms. For a majority, the app had the similar stories as the paper, they were just not as detailed. The app was more for updates according to the newspaper stories, and to reveal breaking news. Pros of the app was the constant updating and fast receiving of the updates. Cons of the app was that there was not as much detail or information provided as in the newspaper. Pros of the newspaper include the amount of detail and information that was provided, while the cons were that readers had to wait for the next days' copy to read anything about breaking news or updates. I would definitely recommend the New York Times to people. The paper has a wide range of reliable coverage that anyone can enjoy. It is also one of the more reliable and detailed daily papers that are currently in circulation in my opinion.

  3. I enjoyed reading The New York Times for this assignment. One thing that stood out to me while reading was how well the stories were written and how the content of the paper wasn't just focused on national issues but international issues as well. I like knowing about what is going on internationally as well as news here at home. I can't really say that I have issues with the NYT other than I just don't really like newspapers in general. Newspapers to me are confusing to read and I don't like using that much brain power to follow a story that I see on the front page to finish reading the rest of it a page or two over. I imagine a good newspaper can give you an "in the moment" feeling when reading a story, much like a good book can, if you enjoy reading newspapers. It can not, however, give you the news as it's happening like the CNN app on my phone does. One of the pros of newspapers is that it can provide more detail and elaborate information than a news app can. A con is that newspapers can be confusing to operate due to the page system and such. I still personally prefer the news app I downloaded for the last assignment because it is fast, quick, and straight to the point, and as stated earlier I'm not a huge fan of newspapers. I would recommend the New York Times to people. Out of all the newspapers I've seen and had to read it was definitely my favorite due to the content and the way the stories were written.

  4. I really liked the organized layout of the New York Times. Newspapers are quite large and often confusing to me the way the sections are divided, but I was able to read and navigate the New York Times quite easily. I also liked how reliable the paper and its sources were. It was completely unbiased and trustworthy, as well as very informative on important matters, while not leaving out or forgetting the importance of entertainment. The only thing I don't like is that newspapers will always be confusing for me. Although the New York times was less confusing than most, it's still hard for me to sit and concentrate on so many words and such important information squished together on a single page. Compared to television or a social media site, a newspaper can offer much more credible and reliable information and sources for that info. It can also offer more details, more valuable facts rather than assumptions, and is usually less biased. There is also more "gate-keeping" in a newspaper because information is gained and sought out by professional trained reporters that can be trusted, so you get more filtered news and less unnecessary information. The actual newspaper, rather than the news app, is less useful in my opinion. You can't always have a paper on you, alerting you of urgent events taking place around the world as well as locally. While it is nice to be able to have such filtered information as well as entertainment in an actual newspaper, it is more useful to me to have an app specifically for news purposes on my smart phone. I would only recommend the New York times if someone wanted the actual paper to read, and had time to sit and go through it to dig for information they want. I would be more likely to recommend the app.

  5. When I read the New York Times I will say I enjoyed the sports section of the paper. When the Houston Astros won the World Series i was curious to see how the Times would work the story. I was pleased with the story that was written it wasn't biased or anything which honestly shocked me.
I will say though I didn't like the news section of the paper. I felt like in some senerios they didn't get the stories where i thought they should have gone. For example for me the JFK files story was a big deal but it wasn't front page above the fold which to me didn't make sense.
I feel like a good newspaper can tell you the full story with all the facts. Social media and in some cases the news break stories in a certain way then come to find out it was completely wrong. A news paper thats harder to do you have to have all the facts right before you can even have the story put in the paper.
So to me there is really one main difference between the app and an actual news paper and thats layout. The app really doesnt show you really layout it shows you the story. On an actual paper you see the main story first because it is face up and very pronounced as to what the main story is.
I would if you are a sports fan i think they do sports better than anyone else i have read. When it comes to news im not so sure if i would just because I think they sometimes dont put stories in the right spots on the paper.

  6. I quite liked our assignment of reading the New York Times daily, as I don’t often use this newspaper. What I most liked about the New York Times is the layout, I liked the design of the front page, using big pictures to draw my attention to the major news stories, and I liked the division of the entire paper, there were many categories of news and they were fairly easy to navigate. I did not find that there was an issue I actually had with the paper itself, I just am not personally crazy about newspapers, I typically prefer reading my news on the Internet or on my phone. Something good about newspapers specifically, rather than social media or television, is that newspapers tend to be more reliable. There’s a strict chain of command involved in the writing of a newspaper, which tends to make the newspaper as a whole more trustworthy due to the scrutiny it endures. Also, where you can’t fit massive amounts of detailed information into a social media post or a television broadcast, you can in a printed story, which gives the audience more in depth news. Compared to CNN, the news application I wrote about in a previous assignment, I believe that this news was just as reliable, but to me, seemed much more detailed. Some benefits that the New York Times held over CNN included that this newspaper was more of a leisurely read for me, and as I stated, much more detailed. I got more news out of the stories I read from the newspaper than I did from the same stories posted on the CNN news app. However, the fact that the New York Times was more of a leisure read proved to be a con for me at some times. Where the CNN app will update me with news in the moment, I would have to wait to get that news from the paper until the next day. Also, where I always have time to see what CNN has to say, due to the fact that this is an app on my phone, which is on hand 24/7, and extremely easy to navigate. However, all in all, the New York Times is much more thorough where my CNN news app is a little more restricted to need-to-know information. I would very much recommend the New York Times to others, if newspapers are more their thing than mine, because it overall is a very accurate, well laid out and in-depth newspaper.

  7. 1.) I liked that The NYT felt very organized and well presented. My local papers at home, were drastically different in their presentation and it kept me from having any interest in them; The NYT was extremely presentable making it much easier to read and keep up with.

2.) The front page (at least from the few additions I've been able to obtain) seems to have too many stories going on all at once. This doesn't mean that I think it's cluttered or unappealing, but it's hard to fully differentiate between the front page story and the six to seven other small ones with nearly the same space to shine.

3.) A good paper has its information presented in a way that gets the audience the biggest and most important information out first, with as little bias as possible. This isn't seen in social media as there's little to no gate keeping for irrelevant info or opinions. This is also not seen as much in typical televised news as they tend to sell opinions and advertisements to their audiences, having the important and appealing pieces appear last in order to keep the audience longer.

4.) They're much the same in writing and presentation, but at least with the LA Times app I didn't need to worry about beating other people to get to the news as it was right i my hands in a non limited quantity.

5.) I would surely recommend it to anyone interested in print news. Much like what I stated about the LA Times The NYT is terrifically written and has something for everyone. Though the paper version isn't as easy to access as I'm sure their app is, so I likely wouldn't recommend the print copy.

  8. I quite like the New York Times' reporting. I feel like it is presented with less bias than quite a few other news sources. The stories are well researched and generally contain all or even more information than I expected to get from reading them. I personally always check the Business section of newspapers when reading them, and the Times, rather predictably, had a high quality one, with more stories in that section than most other newspapers. I also enjoy reading physical copies of the paper, but one of my biggest complaints about them in general is that they just aren't compatible with today's fast moving society. While its nice every once in a while to sit down and read the paper, you just can't keep up with digital media media in rapidity of information release. Also, you must search through the paper to find specific stories, whereas with digital media, you can very easily find one, check it and move on. But, those complaints are about papers in general; as far as the Times goes, I have no specific dislikes for it. Despite the need to slow down when reading the paper, a good newspaper can go much more in depth than social media or television which have limits on characters used or time allotted for a show. Also, since the paper requires you to actually pause for a moment and read through it to find specific stories, your eye will be drawn to other stories as you move through it and you could learn something new in the process. New media allows you to skip that process quite easily. As far as my news app that I used, the Times can't be less biased than the Associated Press, which is widely regarded as true neutral. However, the Times does tend to have more analysis of the issues it reports because the AP really only tells the facts of the matter and moves on. Of course, the app is more convenient than the newspaper, but the newspaper doesn't blow up your phone with notifications on anything that happens either. I would recommend the New York Times to anyone who specifically likes to read newspapers. Otherwise, I could say to them that it is a reliable news source, but I couldn't tell them to read it because its just not as practical in our current society.

  9. 1. I enjoyed reading the New York Times. I’m a big NBA fan so I liked reading their sports section and seeing how they covered basketball. I’m very picky about what kind of sports information I read, and they had some quality content that was worth reading.
    2. However, I didn’t like the scarcity of NBA articles. There was typically only 1 per day covering only 1 game or player, rather than a recap of the entire day.
    3. A good newspaper can offer readers much more reliable information than social media and TV since they are typically more credible. They can also offer more information than social media and TV because they have more room to elaborate, and most people enjoy a good read.
    4. Compared to the CNN app, I’d have to say that I like the New York Times less. The pros of the CNN app include: being able to access it on my phone anytime I want, having access to past articles whenever I want them, and having tabs that sort everything in a more organized manner. I don’t have any cons of the CNN app. Some of the pros of the New York Times include: thorough stories, credible information, up-to-date news. The cons of the New York Times include: scarcity of articles in some areas (as mentioned above), portability, and the absence of notifications (as with any newspaper).
    5. I would recommend the New York Times to others, mostly because of the reliability of their information and the variety of content they cover. Personally, I still recommend an app over a physical newspaper simply because you have the option to receive notifications and personal the content you see.

  10. I did enjoy reading the New York Times for this assignment. I liked how different it was from the newspapers I usually read. I noticed looking at different sections that I usually would not even think about reading in other newspapers. It caters to everyone because it has a wide variety of topics to read about and a lot were more broad than the stories in other newspapers. I liked reading about what was going on all around the world rather than just the U.S. I often find that more interesting anyway because there is so much coverage already centered nationally. The one thing I do not like about the newspaper is actually having to keep up with it, I would rather just read online, but I do like how much information can be put into the stories that online or social media can leave out. Newspapers are definitely more detailed and reliable in credibility, since online websites can sometimes be false news. In The New York Times you obviously wont get the updates or notifications that you can receive on a news app. So, you would have to wait until the next days paper for new news instead of being immediately updated. The newspaper compared to the CNN app is more detailed, but the downside is it's not available all the time unless you carry it around. An app is much more convenient than a newspaper. I would recommend the NYT to others just because of the broad range of subjects it has available. I think its important to stay updated on all types of news, not just state or national and the NYT does a very good job of covering more than just the average news source.

  11. I liked a lot of things about The New York Times I think the stories are true, on point and unbiased. the format was great. I liked how it was easy to understand. The way it was sorted out made it easy for the reader to take in. The best part for me was that it went deep in details. I did not like how overwhelming it was for me personally. I felt like although it had lots of details and deep information on the stories it was much easier for me to get the news from other places. I never want to say that it has too much detail but in a way it felt like a lot for me. A good newspaper can have offer more details unlike any app or TV news. I prefer apps or TV news first because I like the lack of detail when the news is first presented and if I want to know more I can choose to find more but the New York Times kind of throws it all at you at once. I personally liked my CNN app way better. it was more convenient and I like the way it was presented compared to the New York Times. I think the New York Times offered more in depth information on the stories it covered compared to my app. I would advise someone to read the New York Times. I would really advise it for people following stories that they are really into and want to know everything about without picking a certain side or being bias.

  12. There is a reason that the New York Times is held in such high regard and is available nationwide, and that is because they just do a good job at what they do. The paper is organized well. You know where to go to read reviews and find out about new movies and stuff, and you also know where to find all the latest on what's going on in washington. They do a good job at keeping people updated and keep facts at the core of what they are doing. Newspapers like this are important, because they are often the first ones to report on the news, and many times, TV news, blogs, and social media get their news from papers like the New York Times. They also contain MORE than platforms like television news. On TV they either give you just the basics of the story, or if it is a channel like the Fox News Network or CNN, they spend too much time on things, and the stories are muddied with opinions and claims. The newspaper provides a good middle ground. A paper newspaper differs a lot ffrom news apps too. My news apps always bombard me with all sorts of notifications for so many stories, many of which seem to become less and less important. I get notifications for things that really don't matter a lot of the time. ("today's the iphone's birthday. let's look back on the last ten years of apple"). The print newspaper is different. that stuff is still in there, but they don't beg me to read them like my phone does. One upside of the app, however, is that when something important does happen, you find out about it pretty soon. I would recommend the NYT to others. It keeps you up to date, it doesn't pander to an individual point of view or interest, and its got some good puzzles in it.

  13. I liked that the New York Times were not bias in the articles I read. Also most of the articles I read were interesting and seemed to be important and relevant to readers. However, I think some of the articles were oddly placed, as if they should not have belonged on the front page of the paper, and I did not like that very much about the newspaper. Newspapers can get the proper and accurate coverage of events through having time to refine and investigate certain stories, although not as fast as social media and television. Even though this may be true, not everyone has access to social media sites or television in order to view the news and updates. Because of this, a good newspaper can reach more people effectively. The New York Times and the Fox News app I downloaded both seemed to include decent coverage of events in their reports. I looked at my articles online, but if online versions were not available of the New York Times, the Fox News app would have the advantage over reading the New York Times. Another pro of the news app was that there were specific categories that the news was divided into to guide news viewing. However, Fox News is either on an app, online, or on the television. The New York Times can be picked up in many places when technological devices are not available. In order for me to recommend this paper to someone I would need to spend more time reading it. I would stick with recommending Fox News to someone, unless they absolutely did not have access to the internet or television. If they did not have access, I would recommend this newspaper to them solely because it is the only physical newspaper that I have enough knowledge about to recommend.

  14. -The New York Times is a good paper with solid, valuable reporting. While it does lean a little left, it’s not overtly biased in its reporting. It also has something for everyone with its business and arts sections.

-It’s kind of inconvenient. The reporting and content were perfectly fine, besides a little bit of a left bias. But it, like all newspapers, was less convenient than just pulling up the CNN app on your phone. Also, because of its nature as a newspaper, its not as up to date as online news.

-For one thing, it’s physical, you can touch it and feel its weight, which gives you a sort of different feeling when reading it. And since it’s paper, if you intend to sit down and read the news without distraction, you’re not gonna get a text or notification at the top. There are fewer distractions. Also, it has a strong reputation from a long history and you know for sure that what you get is going to be true and trustworthy, which is rarely true for social media, and can sometimes not be true with TV news (which is always rushing to get the news out first). And crosswords. TV doesn’t have crosswords.

-It was a vast array of actual news, as compared to the Breitbart app I downloaded which just reported on random pro-Trump topics. Though the Breitbart app was more convenient to access, it isn’t even worth accessing because its reporting is so bad, as compared to the NYT, which is reputable, solid reporting. Also, Breitbart doesn’t have crosswords.

-I would. It’s a good newspaper with a strong history and though it leans left, it’s not a hard left. Its reporting was good and generally neutral and is worth reading.

  15. For the most part I enjoyed the New York times assignment. I think that the way that the stories were written was done really well and for the most part the stories remained unbiased and were able to cover both sides. I think that the paper was also pretty informative and I did learn some things that I don't think I would have from any other paper. However, I think that the formatting of the paper was a little odd. The placement of the pictures and other graphics made it a little confusing, but I don't feel like it was really a huge deal. I think that the newspaper definitely still serves a purpose even though social media and also television are taking over for the most part. The newspaper can go a little bit more in depth than those other two can and can provide sides to the story that may not be told on any other media. However, the con to this is that newspapers come out everyday but they only come out in the morning, so these other ways of getting news are a lot quicker because you can get them instantly rather than waiting until the next day to get the newspaper. I think that I liked the news app a little better. I think that most of that is just me enjoying the new technology and not being old fashioned, but I really liked getting the notifications on my phone when I woke up and getting news instantly rather than having to go get the paper and then read the news. I think I would recommend the New York Times to other people. I think that it is a pretty good paper and provides good detailed information to the reader.

  16. There were a few things I liked about the New York Times. I liked how the stories were unbiased and up to speed, which big newspapers like that have to be, but there was just really good information present. They are very thorough, which is good! I typically am not a fan of an actual newspaper, I would much rather use my phone with an app, or simply the internet. They are just big, and there is a lot to them. Newspapers are really good with giving in-depth information about a certain thing. This can be really good when its lacking quick and fast news updates that social media or news apps would be able to provide. I think what I said above is a good example of pros and cons for both the app and the print newspaper. I prefer my app over a print newspaper, just because its more convenient and easier to read, especially when you want to know about something right when it happens. Yes, if someone would rather read a newspaper, then I would refer the NYT to them. The NYT is a really good newspaper, and I actually did enjoy it. If I were going to read a newspaper, I would stick to the NYT.

  17. - The New York Times was a god news paper that for the most part reminded unbiased. My favorite thing about the New York time was the over all layout of the paper. It was cleaner and organized than I have seen compared to more local papers. I also found the editorial section very pleasant to read.
-I can't really say there is much that I didn't like about the paper. The only thing that I didn't like was that the paper isn't as portable as my phone/tablet.
    - I believe that a good news paper can give you unbiased news that is straight to the point. A good news paper can also go more in depth with a story.Lastly the news very few distractions from reading. With social media there is always another post and with TV ads often get in the way.
-I honestly rather have news apps. This is because I am often always moving from one place to the next so it becomes hard for me to sit and read a news paper. I used a news app by the name of the skim which allowed me to get the key facts of a story in 2-5 mins which is harder to do with a news paper. I did enjoy the more in depth articles that the New York Times had to offer.
-I would recommend it. I believe that the paper have quite a bit to offer and like I said before I didn't find that many cons with it. I only wouldn't recommend it for people like me who are always busy and on the go. I believe the New York Times is an amazing paper.

  18. • — What do you like about the NYT?
I don't often read newspapers, but I really enjoyed the New York Times. I enjoyed the large arts section. I don't often see that kind of artistic exposure in local magazines. I also enjoyed the layout and organization of the paper. It appealed to my graphic design sense. I didn't really like the very large ads. I know that with the decline in the newspaper industry money needs to be made up somewhere. Yet full page ads threw me off. Personally the tactile feel of a newspaper brings out some very personal sense memories. I did the crossword and it brought back memories of my grandmother doing crosswords. That made me very emotional. Newspapers can also be more reliable and accurate than television, and especially compared to social media. The app made it easier to find specific news articles and filter out what I wanted to see. I enjoyed pertinent information the New York Times brought to the table. At times the CNN app I used seemed to bring up strange connections. Such as a story about a Family Guy episode that made a joke about Kevin Spacey. I didn't feel like giving Family Guy credit for foresight of a sexual abuse for a passing joke was the right tone for a news app. I would. The newspapers is fairly available. It is a good way to be aware of current events from an unbiased point of view.

  19. What I like about the New York Times is that they include very diverse stories and each story is unbiased and very detailed. I also like how the newspaper uses large colorful pictures in their stories. It gives a vivid image for the readers to get a better understanding of the details in the story. One thing I did not like about the newspaper is how you must physically search for stories, unlike quickly searching for stories online and them coming right to your fingertips. A good newspaper like the New York Times can provide good detailed journalism that neither social media or television news can do. Both social media and television news focus on straight forward and quick stories and this can sometimes cause stories to lose detail and passion. After using a news app and reading the actual newspaper, it shows me how important quick accessibility is to me. The app was definitely more convenient, but it does not fulfill the need to hold and turn pages. The pros of a newspaper are the writings are more detailed, but the cons are they are less convenient and may cost to buy. I would probably not recommend the New York Times to other people, because I know that the people around me are more tech savvy and would much rather want something that is quick and easy to read at the touch of their fingertips.

  20. I don't very regularly read newspapers, but I really did enjoy reading the New York Times. I really liked how the newspaper was categorized into different sections based on the topic that is talked about, such as a football news story would be with the sports or an art story would be placed with the culture and arts section. I did however have a difficult time staying intrigued and having the want to read the New York Times, not only due to the fact it is a newspaper, which is long and harder for me to read, but also colored images normally helps in keeping my attention. When deciding on how a newspaper can make more of an impact than that of social media or television, is that for one, a newspaper can easily go into depth about a given topic, instead of giving a summary that most other ways of learning current news may do. When comparing the New York Times to my news app that I tried out, I would prefer to use the news app. The only reasoning was due to the fact that the app is more interactive than the newspaper, which kept me more entertained. I don't know if I would recommend someone the New York Times, only due to the fact I didn't particularly enjoy it, not due to the stories and opinions, but mostly due to the fact that I couldn't even keep reading the paper without getting distracted, and also due to the fact that most of the people I am around are more into technology-based ways of receiving news and would rather have the news quickly and easily at the fingertips within seconds.

  21. Growing up I only ever read bits and pieces of (or sections I might have been in) my local newspaper - the Log Cabin Democrat. That being said, I have never really read a newspaper religiously. The New York Times is very visually appealing in my opinion. Its use of big, bright-colored photographs help catch the reader's eye to a story. There is usually multiple photographs on the front page. I also liked how at the bottom of the first page you can see what else is going to be throughout the paper. It has multiple different sections with headlines included so the reader knows exactly where they might want to flip to. One thing I feel that could be improved is the headlines' fonts and sizes. Especially since it is the New York Times, I picture the headlines to be large and in charge. However, this is not the case. They tended to be much smaller than I imagined and did not stand out in comparison to the stories. A good newspaper can include multiple sources and/or multiple perspectives on the same story that one social media post may not be able to do. Also, you can physically hold and touch a newspaper unlike social media or television. You can read a front page article about something and turn the page to read an editorial of the same story, which can provide the reader with much more insight as opposed to social media or television. Compared to the social media app that I had downloaded onto my phone, the New York Times is great but I still prefer the app. It actually has the New York Times on it, so I can still read it, but I also have other news companies and stations I get the same story from as well. That being said, I would recommend the NY Times to someone if they solely read newspapers, but social media and apps on devices are so popular in today's world that I would probably not recommend it alone. You can get the NY Times on your phone along with any and all other news in one single app that is right at your fingertips and with you wherever you go.

  22. Personally, I liked reading the NYT. What I liked most about it were the special weekly sections on various topics supplementing the regular news, features, sports, etc. What I didn't like about it was the different approach to organizing they seem to practice. They organize the paper differently than the local newspaper I'm used to reading. What a good newspaper can do that social media or television news cannot is provide absolute sources. You know in the back of your mind that what your reading is coming from a legitimate source and you don't have to worry about it being fake news. The NYT compared to my news app that I used is quite different. With my news app I could eliminate and pretty much personalize what news I wanted to read about. With the NYT I didn't have that option. I liked the news app because I didn't have to search for what I was looking for. The top story would be something I chose to be one of my top interests and I couldn't do that just reading the NYT. I would recommend the NYT to others just because it's easy to read and has more to offer than other newspapers, like the special weekly sections that supplement the regular news.

  23. I like the fact that NYT covers a lot of worldwide news coverage but i didnt see a lot of coverage on new york. The news paper can explain more detail and have more facts than social media would. I would recommend NYT if u like mainstream news because there is plenty of it.

  24. My favorite thing about the New York Times is that overall, I feel like the content was unbiased. More importantly though, their stories were relevant. Also, the layout was much cleaner and easier to follow than many other newspapers.

There was not a particular thing that I could pinpoint that I didn't like about the New York Times. Personally, I'm just not a huge fan of Newspapers in general.

A newspaper has their stories organized by importance. The most important story is on the front page. Whereas, on social media, everything is sometimes just a cluster. Newspapers also are a traditional nostalgic thing.

I used the CNN app, and I would say that I liked that better than the New York Times. I had it at my fingertips, so I could read it walking to class whereas, pulling out a newspaper and trying to keep it all together is difficult. Also, I liked how on the CNN app, you could choose what category of news you wanted to read about. Newspapers are divided by sections, not tabs. Its a similar concept, but I preferred the app.

If someone is a fan of newspapers, yes I would recommend the New York Times to them. It is well-organized, thorough, relevant, and unbiased. However, it is not my preferred way to consume media.
